Spixs Macaw “Rio”

Rio is a rather big fella looking for his new home after retiring from racing at the beginning of last year. Very laid back character that would rather stay home and cuddle. Saying this he is one of the more athletic standies so depending on where he goes he could make either a lazy trail rider or pursue more performance endeavours.

He has a lovely big active movement and isn’t dead to the leg. Has been ridden alone and in company but can get on his toes and have a shy here and there. The best way to describe his spooks are they feel like a lot but they’re not going anywhere. He is a genuine boy that just has baby moments that will need a confident rider to put some miles under his belt. I can see him being a very reliable mount that would suit beginners but just needs the time out and about to find his way.

He has been paddocked alone and shared with no separation anxiety. Perfect to do everything on the ground with aside from him having a big head and pulling you to grass! Tacking up he can sometimes get on his toes but nothing nasty, he generally calms down quickly.

Due to his size and need for miles he will only be sold to an experienced/confident home to bring the best out in him. He will be capable of carrying tall gentlemen/larger riders. He would make a fab endurance mount and he would handle the ‘harder’ trail rides.
